Monthly Archives: September 2011

3rd image by me, all other images – scans of cover and article of weddingsinbc may 2011 magazine, shot by jamie delaine.

it has taken me forever to finally get to posting about this! sorry bridesmaid BFF Pam (and my lovely and talented makeup artist) who hasn’t seen it yet (and maybe even bridesmaid and sister-in-law Michelle who lives in the same city as i do – no excuses – ack)!

we were SUPER lucky to have our August 2010 wedding featured in the real weddings online and in debut print issue of WeddingsInBC magazine, out in May 2011. it was SUPER tough to get copies of this little beauty (as it wasn’t available on the island and i had some confusion as to where i could get my hands on it), so again, our amazing wedding photographer miss Jamie Delaine mailed us copies!

Jamie’s work was featured on the COVER (a gorgeous bouquet arranged by Balconi Floral Design Studio in Vancouver) and our wedding shot by Jamie is featured in a 3 page spread!! eep!  We were contacted in late December (a belated Christmas present), we filled out a short questionnaire, and the lovely team at WeddingsInBC wrote an eloquent blurb to go along with Jamie’s photos!

Another thanks to both Jamie and editor Lauren Wiebe and the team at WeddingsInBC for making a dream come true!

1. a husband and wife team (photographer extraordinaire – hugh forte – and recipe/cooking/baking whiz – sara), sprouted kitchen is the perfect marriage b/w fresh, light, delicious food and inspirational food photography.  just seconds on this blog make me feel like running to the market for fresh produce and to my camera to photograph it: sprouted kitchen.

2. based in brooklyn, sunday-suppers is foodies dream site.  recipes, restaurant reviews, beautiful photography (by karen mordechai) and cooking classes!  this site inspires me to try new recipes, take more interesting photos and to perfect my housewares collection :): sunday suppers.

3. the website associated with the print magazine by the same name, featuring restaurant recommendations, produce information, information on where to find specific ingredients you might be looking for, recipes, farmers markets and tasty events in and around the lovely lower mainland!  check out the digital edition of the magazine: edible vancouver.

4. more gorgeous food photography, great local features, local ingredients and yummy fresh recipes.  melissa (the bounty hunter) is a vancouverite and a nutritionist, on a quest to encourage and inspire local, sustainable, and most importantly – delicious – eating!  great to see a local lady hunting for local food: the bounty hunter.

5. last, but not least, my husband’s blog.  he is super keen on finding local, delicious, sustainable food and trying new and fun recipes to help us eat healthier and more sustainably. oh and beer. he looooooves beer.  he loves to sample local micro- or craft breweries, and is always looking for his next favourite beer!  he has lots of projects on the go at the moment (check out agropolis vancouver), but eating has always been his favourite thing to do :): the hungry architect.

While summer was still in Vancouver, Ryan and I were able to enjoy the patio, some tasty food and some beer at Chill Winston in Gastown!  I had never been, though I’d heard great things about it!  We had walked down to Gastown from the West End along the Coal Harbour SeaWalk, scoping out potential spots to have our 1st anniversary photoshoot, and needed a quick bite and a refreshing beer!

We ordered a refreshing Leifmans Fruitesse raspberry beer (perfect for a summer day) – I had the duck tacos – deeelicious, tasty well-seasoned meat, a crisp slaw and tangy salsa to mix together in a cute little soft taco – and ryan ordered the bison burger, which he must have enjoyed because it disappeared quite quickly!  I’m eager to go back and try the scallops and the kangaroo carpaccio!
