one of the most unique wedding blogs i’ve seen so far, hi-fi weddings focuses on and celebrates the music featured at weddings! we are SO lucky to be featured on their super cool blog today, again showcasing our photographer jamie delaine‘s incredible work she did for us! jamie has been such a cheerleader for showcasing our wedding, we can’t thank her enough for submitting us to these awesome wedding blogs (ruffled, la belle bride, green wedding shoes and now hi-fi weddings)!

we were asked to include our wedding cd tracklist as well as music we chose for special events during the course of the wedding. up on their blog is a small sample list of the music from the ceremony, dinner and reception, as well as the song we played for our processional, recessional and homemade champagne toast! yeeha!

thanks again so much to hi-fi weddings and to jamie!! (post photos by jamie delaine photography.)

after posting about some of my favourite stylish bloggers, i realized i haven’t ever posted about my favourite go-to wedding blogs that i visited daily during the wedding planning (and still visit pretty much every day)! i think i probably spent an extra hour on my computer every morning after checking my email and before starting work! heh oops, sorry Louise! i made countless digital inspiration boards using images and ideas from these blogs, SUCH great resources for wedding design and planning!

when i first started planning, i had a few blogs that were my faves and i found myself scouring paper/print magazines for ideas.  as planning progressed, i kept discovering more and more fantastic blogs (linked from my original faves) that were packed with DIYs, flower arrangements, colour schemes, dresses, etc. i actually stopped buying print magazines (except for Martha of course – she’s still a must) and these wedding blogs became my primary source for inspiration!

so here they are, my favourite wedding blogs in no particular order:

1. ruffled blog: one of the first blogs i started following after i got engaged, ruffled is a fantastic mix of DIY, rustic, vintage and modern weddings and wedding ideas. we were lucky enough to be featured on the blog, thanks to amanda (the editor) and to the fabulous jamie for submitting us [oh and for taking those stunning photos that got us in ;)]

2. 100 layer cake: another bright, fresh, colourful wedding blog full of fun DIY ideas and links to great wedding resources!

3. grey likes weddings: a modern and chic blog edited by stylist summer watkins!  [if you like her wedding blog, check out her other sites grey likes nesting for home and interior design inspiration, and grey likes baby for after the stylish wedding and decorated house ;)]

4. martha stewart weddings (of course): i guess really this is martha’s wedding website, not really a blog per se, but the epitome of fresh and classic, mixed with modern DIY and great food, drink and style suggestions! a must!

5. lovely: a blog run by the owners of lovely bridal boutique in new york. their blog is packed with beautiful dresses and accessory ideas (they sell the designers of my dress and hairpiece – sarah seven and myra’s twigs&honey)!

6. hi-fi weddings: one of the raddest of my new favourites, i unfortunately didn’t come across this gem until after the wedding! our photographer and her brother tipped me off to this one! i love their angle of featuring the special music chosen and played at weddings! ryan and i spent a lot of time choosing our favourite songs because of how important music is to us. we wanted the whole wedding to be a reflection of our personalities, and what better way than with music? stay “tuned” (ok another thing that i should have added to the “7 facts about me” i LOVE cheesy puns and dad jokes!) for a feature of our wedding on this awesome site!!! fingers crossed!

7. once wed: another one of my original faves, once wed has a great “used wedding dress” marketplace where brides can post and sell their “used” wedding gowns! i actually found a past season carolina herrera for sale (that was at the time no longer available for purchase, plus i couldn’t afford the actual retail price either) that i’d snipped out of a real wedding feature in a martha stewart weddings magazine!! it was WAY cheaper, but too big for me and slightly damaged. i was DYING to wear one of sarah seven‘s creations, but it was still really neat to see what a resource it was! a stylish option for bargain wedding dress hunting! (“polka-dot” dress i was obsessed with pictured here.)

8. the sweetest occasion: a cute blog dedicated to pretty parties! lots of great design ideas for birthdays, showers, and of course, weddings!

9. style me pretty: another one of my original faves, the hub for elegant, upscale, gorgeous weddings, with some rustic, modern and cozy weddings mixed in!

10. green wedding shoes: another blog i didn’t find until after the wedding, when they featured 2 of jamie’s photos of us in their story “pretty pretty parasols“. more great features of indie, modern, vintage and DIY weddings!

11. utterly engaged: a neat online wedding magazine. beautiful, full-page editorial features of dresses, accessories and real weddings, definitely helped me know 100% that i had to wear sarah seven after this feature on eco-designers: see here.

12. la belle bride: super cool canadian owned and edited wedding blog (edited by chantale montgomery)! i love her tuesday “dudes day” where chantale’s husband posts about great men’s wedding style and tips!

phewf! that was a wordy one! and definitely doesn’t include ALL of the blogs and websites that i used for sources of inspiration, tips, and DIY ideas!

[photo of my sister-in-law michelle and i taken by mom after my bridal shower at the empress hotel. i chose it to include with this post b/c it looks like i’ve just accepted an award and i’m wearing something other than sweatpants 😉 hehehe sorry for the cheese!]

an old friend from home (all the way back to greenfield elementary), natalie from vanillalavenderdelights, has kindly nominated me a for a “stylish blogger award”! thanks so much! natalie’s blog is dedicated to her love of nutrition/food and fashion (yum!) hehehe

the award asks me to share 7 things about myself, so here goes:

1. i am currently wrapping up my masters in ecology and evolution from uvic. i’ve been a snail mom for a few years now, and i am reading to move on!  it has been a great learning experience (more self than molluscan ;), but i’m conflicted now about carrying on in the academic world.  i have no idea what to do next, but i’m anxiously excited to figure out what the next step might be!

2. i played basketball for 14 years, and haven’t now for 4 years 😦 i need to get back into shape so that i could last a full game if i start up again!

3. my favourite heterobranch atm is the eel grass sea hare, phyllaplysia taylori. i fortuitously discovered one of these little gems on a piece of eel grass i collected in esquimalt lagoon when i was hunting for haminoea vesicula eggs.

4. my favourite designer label atm is proenza schouler. sigh. the fabric, the styling, the colours.  maybe one day…

5. i’m a warcraft/starcraft geek. i don’t play the online WOW, but have been playing the original core games since the late 90’s. STANDARD NERD!

6. i collect dead bees. (see this post.)

7. hmmmm one last alisonfactoid… i’ve broken all of my fingers at least twice… some three times… all due to basketball except my very first that was due to an unfortunate landing after the high jump. ouch.

also, i’m encouraged to nominate my fellow, inspiring bloggers! i’d like to nominate/award:

1. my husband and his blog: the hungry architect. he posts about architecture that inspires him, food that he cooks  (i get to eat it sometimes!) and anything else neat that he comes across! muah!

2. myra kim of twigs&honey: in addition to making the most beautiful hair adornments (selling on etsy, her website AND at anthropologie’s wedding store bhldn), myra manages to contribute to her blog of inspiration, outfit style, family and the amazing pieces she designs and handmakes herself! go myra! (ps- i can’t believe i forgot to also mention she is a scientist too! myra has her masters in environmental science!)

3. jamie delaine’s blog: our amazing photographer from the wedding. jamie’s blog is full of life, showcasing her amazing talent, ambition, colourful and creative personal style and her zest for self-improvement (i wanted to use the word zest b/c jamie’s snazzy yellow blog happily reminds me of lemons)! very inspiring!

4. robyn michelle-lee thompson’s blog: our lovely second shooter from our wedding who worked in collaboration with jamie.  her personal blog (and photography blog) includes beautiful write-ups and crisp, cool photographs of food, vancouver and fashion that always leave me feeling refreshed. her elegant, audrey hepburn-esque personal style doesn’t hurt either!

5. and last but not least, my newest discovery – erica and lauren’s blog honestly…WTF! super cool blog full of fashion editorials, interior design ideas, travel and awesome DIY projects (my recent fav – a DIY for that amazing Fendi frill)! very happy i stumbled across their blog!

photos by me.  ryan had the craving for something light and fresh, and last time we were shopping he thought, why not try a couscous salad? we’d never made one before, but as most of you probably already know, its VERY easy! we cut up cucumber, red pepper, parsley, white onion, mint and tomato and mixed in a can of chickpeas and the prepared couscous. ryan made a dressing of lemon juice, olive oil and salt and drizzled it over the salad. extremely tasty and really quick!

cool! what a fantastic thing to wake up to on a monday morning! our wedding photographed by jamie delaine is being featured on the online wedding blog “la belle bride” this morning! editor chantale montgomery has included a super sweet write-up and they are going to post THREE parts! yay! thanks again so much to jamie delaine and la belle bride! part one can be seen here! part two is here and lastly part three! whee!
