My picks from Pre-Fall 2012 Collections, part 2!

Images from Vogue.com.  Back to my picks from the Pre-Fall collections!  I raved about SS2012 Theyskens’ Theory, and though I wouldn’t necessarily rave about this collection, I’m still a fan of the mix of textures, colours and the overall vibe of the collection – my favourite look would have to be the sequin jacket over the printed top and boyfriend jean shorts – casual yet so interesting!

Historically, I’m not a huge fan of Zac Posen, but these picks from his Pre-Fall collection are starting to make me want to see more!  When I see these pieces, I think of old Hollywood glamour, polished and ladylike.  My favourite piece has got to be the flirty black dress with the fluted sleeves and hem!I love the contrast in colours and fabrics between Phillip Lim’s SS2012 and Pre-Fall collections, a true “the nights are getting cooler, so let’s put on a slightly warmer jacket/blazer, but still show our bare legs” collection!  Jackets, blazers and separates were key features in his SS2012 collection, and PF2012 seems to incorporate the same idea of many different wearable pieces, all cohesive as a collection and all with interesting cuts, fabric or pop of colour! (I really like how he incorporated comic/graphic print t-shirts and bags into the collection.)Not as many designers produced Pre-Fall collection to pick favourites from, so that ends my Pre-Fall picks for 2012!  Can’t wait for the Fall 2012 shows!  Until then…

Second Christmas!

After a wonderful Christmas at the Nelsons (top photo an arrangement of Jeri’s), we took the ferry up to Roberts Creek for Christmas with my parents!  Brother Ian had flown in on the 25th, and he, Mom and Dad had saved opening Christmas presents until Ryan and I arrived, so we were able to have a full Page Christmas after all!  Ian bought us a WICKED Spock cookie jar, we can’t wait to get him home and fill him with some treats! Thanks Ian!  Makito photographed and designed his own Christmas card again this year (photo 10), and it’s AMAzing as usual!  On display at the parents house! Thanks Makito!  And the REAL treat, Gdad was able to come home for lunch and a short visit!  I’m having such a great holiday and I hope you all are too!

Christmas with the Nelsons!

On the 23rd, we had the annual Nelson/Sidhu Christmas dinner and gift exchange!  Jeri and Suki had arranged a neighbourhood scavenger hunt for us kids, with treasures and treats along the way!  Omg, seriously!  Our gift exchange was so much fun, I was lucky enough to get the gorgeous “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” from my Secret Santa, Neetika, and I’m so excited! After our Nelson/Sidhu Christmas on the 23rd, we had Christmas at the Nelsons!We had a wonderful Christmas at the Nelsons this year! 5 people, 2 cats, 3 dogs and 1 delicious turkey!  It was my first Christmas away from my family, but I had such a fun time with the Nelsons!  Many thanks for the lovely gifts from family and friends, we are so very fortunate!  Jeri cooked a beautifully tender turkey and veggies and Ryan made us fancy latés with his SB Barista! Such a treat!  Now it’s time to watch one of our favourite movies, Labyrinth! “You remind me of the babe”, “what babe?”, “the babe with the power”…

Evening visit to the Vancouver Christmas Market!

We made a second trip to the Vancouver Christmas Market last night to enjoy the lights, browse the hundreds of incredible ornaments and to taste the delicious food! We tried the schupfnudel, the mulled wine (glühwein) and the waffles from das waffelhaus! Only an evening and a day left to enjoy all the sights, sounds, smells, and best of all – the tastes of the market! Open tonight until 9pm and from 11am – 6pm on the 24th! Do go!

Christmas cards from friends and family, colourful decorations and dressing up for holiday parties!  Christmas has really crept up on me this year, it feels like September was just a few weeks ago!  Many thanks for all of the Christmas cards and best wishes from friends and family, I hope you all have a safe & wonderful holiday with friends and/or family, wherever you are! xoxo

Lana Del Rey’s “Born To Die”

First image is screenshot from the video, video source: LanaDelRey on youtube.  My new favourite song is Lana Del Rey’s “Born To Die” and the video is one of the main reasons I have it on repeat!  The video is fashion forward as well as a little retro, which I think is what is really great about Lana’s style as an artist!   I’m really digging the regal Queen Lana character flanked by her tigers, who seems to be watching over the rebellious “live fast die young” Lana in the outrageously short denim cutoffs and Converse high tops.

I couldn’t locate the actual Antonio Berardi white gown for sale anywhere (that Queen Lana Del Rey actually wears in the video) from his Spring 2011 Collection (look 5/39), but I put together a little board to imitate her style in the video! My picks from Pre-Fall 2012 collections, part 1!

All images from vogue.com.  It feels like just yesterday, I was posting about Spring/Summer 2012 fashion and now the Pre-Fall Collections are already here!  It’s been a quiet week on my blog this week, busy preparing for Christmas and watching the Pre-Fall Collections come in!  Here are my favourites so far, in no particular order (except Jason Wu’s collection does happen to be a front-runner for one of my faves…):Darker in tone and more intricately detailed than his SS2012 collection, I love the colour choices he has used for this Pre-Fall collection – moody, yet still bright and inviting!  I think my favourite piece is the architectural camel coat with the black lace detailing – a real stunner!I fully expected to see some sort of tribal or safari influence from Michael Kors, but this Pre-Fall collection is bright, bold and fresh in a different way!  Using bright colours such as turquoise and a red/coral, and a smart buffalo plaid,  I’m really enjoying this collection!  Michael Kors is known for his streamlined architectural and visually stunning cuts, which is evident in the beautiful black mullet dress with the leather racer top and the impeccable structured belted grey wool coat!  Love it!Chanel goes ALL out every season, so having gorgeously dressed and expertly styled models strut alongside a lavish dinner feast laid out on a mile-long table dripping with ornate silverware and candelabras really isn’t anything out of the ordinary!  Karl Lagerfeld’s “Paris-Bombay” collection was definitely something I’d never seen before!  From head-to-toe, the diverse cast of models were styled impeccably and every detail/texture/cut was more beautiful and interesting than the last!  A true “visual feast”!I fully intended on posting about Burberry’s SS2012 collection, but I completely forgot (embarrassed!), so hopefully I’ll make it up to the SS2012 collection by gushing over the Pre-Fall 2012 collection!  Definitely well-deserved praise, I love the colour palette and fabric choices for this collection – mustard yellow, avocado green, tweeds, furs, velvets – sigh!  Lady-like elegance and English sophistication in spades!

Vancouver Christmas Market

Ryan and I visited the Vancouver Christmas Market on Sunday, to catch our wonderful friend Dana playing the accordion with the Victoria Accordion Club!  It was SO much fun to see her play and have a quick visit in between sets of bouncy Christmas classics!  The market itself is a great weekend or after work visit with lots of traditional handmade Christmas crafts and ornaments and delicious food! Ryan and I went during the day, but we are going to head back to wander the market at night to enjoy the lights and mulled wine!

Star Wars Identities: The Exhibition

Image from bleublancrouge .  Ooooomg,  you have no idea how excited I am!  My friend Lisa in Edmonton alerted me to the Star Wars Identities Exhibition, being shown in Canada ONLY in Edmonton and Montréal!! Ack!  Brother Ian nabbed us tickets for November of next year and I’m SUPER excited!  I can’t believe I have to wait a whole YEAR!?  Time to revisit my favourite movies of all time over and over and over…

Mary Katrantzou SS2012 Lookbook!
